Work begins on £6m lesiure centre

Morgan Sindall Construction has broken ground on a new £6m leisure centre in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.

The contractor is delivering the project for West Lindsay District Council through the Scape Regional Construction framework.

Set on Gainsborough Road, the 18,300 sq ft leisure centre will be the cornerstone of a wider £7.8m council investment to improve the health and wellbeing of local residents, proactively addressing rising levels of obesity, Type 2 diabetes, and dementia.

The start of building work was attended by councillor Jeff Summers, leader of West Lindsey Council, chairman of the Council, councillor Pat Mewis, members of Morgan Sindall Construction’s project team, and representatives from Everyone Active which will operate the centre once open.

Designed by CPMG Architects, the centre will be set over two storeys and feature exercise equipment, alongside a 7,400 sq ft sports hall, café and changing areas. There will also be an external 3G all-weather pitch.

Construction is expected to complete in spring 2020.

Rob Cant, Scape Regional Construction framework director, at Morgan Sindall Construction said: “First-class leisure facilities are the foundation of any health and wellbeing strategy, and we’re incredibly pleased to working with West Lindsay District Council to deliver on its plans.”
