Family business to invest £1m in new Derby outlet

A £1m investment that will create 10 jobs in Derby has been revealed by a family business.

EMC Tiles, which employs more than 50 staff across the East Midlands, has moved onto Eagle Park in the city.

Its new trade service centre will open on June 3 and will be its fourth – adding to those in Leicester, Loughborough and Nottingham. It will initially employ five people, rising to 10.

EMC Tiles, managing director, Barry Slawson, said: “Derby is a natural next step for the company, whose customers include trade clients such as tile fixers, builders, commercial clients as well as DIY enthusiasts.”

“Our new branch will focus on local business and will incorporate an 8,000 sq ft unit including a custom built Trade Services Centre and showroom with extensive warehouse space for our stocked products.

“We will have a large trade counter with experienced trade staff to advise and help our valued customers.

“Since our small beginnings in 1979, EMC Tiles has always held our relationship with the tile fixer and contractors a key priority to our development as a company.

“The new premises will provide EMC Tiles with a well-positioned property in an established trade location.”

The deal to bring in EMC Tiles was brokered by Salloway Property Consultants and its managing director Steve Salloway said: “We are delighted that another high-quality company has moved into Eagle Park.

“This has become one of the greatest success stories of Derby’s commercial property scene in recent times.”
