Engineering consultancy reveals London expansion plans

Chris and Claire Farrow

A Leicester-headquartered engineering consultancy agency has told TheBusinessDesk.com that it wants to break into the London market.

Farrow Walsh Consultancy, which also has a satellite office in Birmingham, is run by husband and wife team Chris and Claire Farrow. Chris, who has worked for consultancies such as BWB and HSP, set Farrow Walsh up a decade ago. Today, the company employs 26 staff in Leicester and a handful more in its Birmingham office.

Now, Chris says he is looking to break into the London market after building up the business through referrals and word-of-mouth.

“Growth has come organically,” he said. “We’ve expanded the business through developing our staff to be the best in their discipline and on the back of repeat business. We’ve only ever taken on staff when we need to do, and we don’t have any huge growth plan in mind.”

The majority of Farrow Walsh’s work has been in the residential sector, but, increasingly, the firm is working on industrial and commercial property projects. One high profile contract is the new Grade A scheme at Edwalton Business Park, on the outskirts of Nottingham which will bring forward 24,000 sq ft of office space.

However, Chris and Claire have plans to take the business truly national.

Chris said: “London has always been a big draw for us and we’d like to make a go of it. We’re also looking towards Sheffield and Leeds in the near future.”

Claire was instrumental in Farrow Walsh moving into its new offices last September – an £80,000 investment aimed at giving the company’s staff the best possible working environment.

It’s this attention to detail that is paying dividends, says Chris. “We’ve learned from the mistakes of others to give a truly director-led service to our clients,” he said, “but we also want our staff to have the drive to think they can take on projects too. That’s how we’ll continue to expand.”
