M1 closed southbound after collision

The M1 is currently closed Southbound from J18 to J16 with delays of at least 30 minutes covering several miles of the southbound carriageway.

Highways England says the closure is due to a road traffic collision and it has resources deployed working hard to restore normal conditions “as soon as possible”.

The agency says that for traffic approaching the closure locally, you are advised to expect disruption with extra journey time and may potentially have to re-route your journey.

If travelling towards this area from much farther afield, you may wish to change your strategic route, allow extra travel time and follow guidance from our on-road variable message signs and media.

Diversion route details and guidance is as follows;

Exit the M1 southbound at J18 keeping in the RHS lane of the slip road. Then turn right at the junction(west) onto the A5. Continue along the A5 and merge onto the A428 by keeping left at the A428/A5 Parkway Roundabout.

Continue on the A428, passing through the Railport Approach(entry to DRIFT) roundabout to the A428/A5 Crick Roundabout. At the A428/A5 Crick Roundabout take the first exit onto the A5 south (Waitling Street) and continue to the A5/A361 Kilsby Roundabout. At the roundabout take the first exit left(south) and continue along the A5 passing through the junctions at Norton/Little Brington, Long Buckby Wharf, Watford Gap and through Weedon and Pattishall villages to the A5/A43 Towcester Roundabout. At the roundabout take the first exit(left) onto the A43 northeast. Continue on the A43 to M1 at junction 15a and rejoin the M1 southbound.

The M45 eastbound is also closed between J1 and the M1 J17:

Exit the M45 at the M45/A45 Dunchurch Roundabout onto the B4429 Coventry Lane, continue eastbound along the B4429 passing through the B4429/A426 Rugby Road junction along Daventry Road to the B4429/A45 Daventry Road Rbt.

Then take the first exit onto the A45 eastbound. Continue along the A45 through Willoughby and Braunston Villages to A45/A361 Braunston Road/Drayton Road Rbt. At the roundabout continue straight ahead (south) taking the second exit and continue along the A45 passing through the Prospect Way Roundabout to the A45/A4256 Leamington Way Rbt.

Then take the second exit southbound onto Leamington Way(Daventry Bypass). Continue along the Bypass passing through the roundabouts at A45 Leamington Way/Yeomanry Way to the A45/A425 Leamington Way/Stefen Way Rbt. Take the first exit and continue eastbound along Stefen Way to the A45/A425/B4038 London Road/Stefen Road Rbt.

Then take the third exit off the roundabout and continue eastbound along the A45 to A45/A5 Weedon crossroads. At the A45/A5 Weedon Crossroads continue straight ahead(east) along the A45 through the Villages of Flore and Upper Heyford to the M1 Junction 16. Then rejoin the M1 southbound.
