Magpies fans asked to help fund unpaid players and staff

The entire proceeds from everyone who passes through designated ‘Notts County’ turnstiles at Saturday’s friendly against Ilkeston Town will be used to help the Magpies’ unpaid staff, according to the Magpies.

The move follows reports in Nottinghamshire Live that owner Alan Hardy stormed out of a meeting with players yesterday (Thursday 11) after being challenged over non-payment of wages for June.

Hardy also owns Ilkeston Town.

A statement from Notts County said: “Clear signage will indicate which turnstiles supporters wishing to contribute to the fund should pass through.

“Ilkeston Town supporters are also encouraged to use the ‘Notts County’ turnstiles, however those who wish for their entrance fee to go towards Ilkeston Town will be able to use separate turnstiles, which will also be clearly marked.”

The statement continues: “Notts County’s Official Supporters’ Association have kindly offered to continue their superb fundraising efforts by holding a bucket collection at the match for those who are willing and able to contribute more to the fund.

“A total figure of monies raised will be published in due course after the match. This money will then be shared among the club staff who need it most.

“The club would like to take this opportunity to thank supporters for their generosity and goodwill.”

Earlier this week, Notts were given an extra three weeks to settle an outstanding HMRC tax bill. Hardy said the sale of club to a Danish consortium would be “days away”.
