Plans for West Bridgford mixed-used scheme tipped for approval

How the scheme would have looked

Plans to build a huge mixed-use scheme on disused land in the West Bridgford area of Nottingham have have been recommended for approval by Rushcliffe Borough Council.

A company called Wilford Lane Developments, which is thought to be a joint venture between Lincoln-based Simons Developments and two Kuwaiti investors, wants to build a new Lidl supermarket with 350 car parking spaces, a pub, a drive-thru coffee shop, 204 apartments in four blocks and 75 retirement homes.

Once finished, the development could create 85 jobs on Wilford Lane on disused land next to the ROKO gym.

The scheme has been designed by Whittam Cox Architects and has been through several iterations before being submitted to Rushcliffe Borough Council.

A statement accompanying the planning application reads: “The proposal seeks to achieve a well-balanced mixed use development that contributes and adds to the existing West Bridgford area.

“The proposal will occupy a site that has been dormant for many years through implementing a mixture of uses including retail, leisure and residential. The retail/ leisure buildings have been designed in such a way that they reference the existing surroundings through the use of red brick and take on a contemporary/modern form that creates visual interest along Wilford Lane. The proposed drinking establishment is situated at a prominent corner and sets an architectural precedent that influences the design of the surrounding units.”

Rushcliffe Borough Council’s planning committee will sit next Thursday (18 July) to decide on the plans.
