Over 400 jobs under threat as food giant reveals factory closure

Over 400 jobs could be axed at a Lincolnshire bakery after its parent company announced plans to close the site.

Addo Food Group says it will close its Spadling factory by next year in order to keep the company profitable. Some 405 people work at the site.

Production will be moved the company’s Poole Palethorpe bakeries.

Addo’s brand include Pork Farms, Bowyers and Wall’s. It employs 2,500 people across six sites in Nottingham, Palethorpe, Spadling, Poole and Dorset.

Deborah Bolton, chief executive, said: “We fully understand the disappointment of this announcement for all of our employees, and we are committed to doing everything possible to support them over the coming weeks, especially those who would be directly affected.

“In order to maintain our market leading position and meet customer expectations as efficiently as possible, we need to optimise our manufacturing sites to enable a continued investment in quality, service and product and packaging innovation. This proposal will allow us to achieve this.”
