Sports Direct announces closure of Jack Wills stores

Sports Direct has announced it is to close eight Jack Wills stores, a week after buying the retailer out of administration for £12.75m.

The stores that will close are:

Derby

Marlborough

Rock

St Albans

Tunbridge Wells

Reigate

Durham

Kingston

A Sports Direct spokesperson said: “Since rescuing Jack Wills from administration last week, we have been working hard with landlords to try and keep as many stores in the existing portfolio open.

“Unfortunately, the landlords involved with these eight stores have not cooperated. Where possible, Sports Direct is committed to finding new roles within the group for all affected Jack Wills staff.”

CBRE is advising Sports Direct.

Sirebrook-based Sports Direct’s acquisition of the brand included all 100 Jack Wills stores plus its distribution centre.

In its latest results to the end of January 2018, Jack Wills made an operating loss of £14.2m.

Sports Direct’s shares were decimated yesterday after Grant Thornton quit as the retailer’s auditor with the Big 4 rivals already seemingly ruled themselves out.
