New Hot Property trustee shares the ‘buzz’ of performing at the city’s top event

Earlier this year we announced that three new trustees had joined the Nottingham Hot Property (NHP) committee, one of which is well known Hot Property performer, Neil Walker from Faithful+Gould.

We therefore sat down with the head of operations for the East Midlands to discuss sponsorship and past performances.

How many years have you been attending Hot Property?

I’ve been involved in Hot Property since its inception, although I did take a few years off when I was working in the Middle East. However, this is the third year that Faithful+Gould have been a sponsor of the event. Each year gets better and better and we love being part of such a great cause.

What are you most looking forward to about NHP 2019?

I’ve always been part of Hot Property, but this is of course the first year I’ve been a trustee, which offers a slightly different perspective. We’re now in the sixth month of planning and the thing I’m looking forward to the most is seeing all the hard work and planning come together on the night. I still get a massive buzz from seeing 700 people come together, in one room, all having fun. It makes all the preparation and effort worthwhile.

I’m also excited to see how much we raise for our chosen charity this year as we try to increase the funds raised year after year! Last month the team met the charity and we were taken back by the work Baz does, so we are thrilled that we can show our support.

Do you have a favourite performance from last year and why?

I really enjoyed American Boy by Jenny Keen and Regulate with Harry Stannard. These two songs were just a little different from the normal format and everyone loved it!

Also the crowd’s reaction to the song I sung last year – Champagne Supernova – was incredible as it’s a really well-known song so having 700 people sing along with you is pretty special.

What do you think to the theme this year – ‘Throwback’?

This year’s theme gives the performers quite a wide scope of well-known songs to sing, so the set list is a really exciting mix from different eras and genres. We’ll be hearing songs that we haven’t heard in a while, but lots of songs which the audience are going to love.

How are you finding being a trustee?

It was an honour to be invited to be a trustee. It’s been challenging at times as there’s so much to plan in a short timescale, including wanting to raise as much money as possible and beat last year’s total. Keeping the performers in check has also been tough, these creative types are temperamental, and it’s been a balancing act to keep all the divas happy!

Alongside Faithful+Gould the sponsors for this year’s event include B&M Installations, Couch Perry Wilkes, CPMG, Fraser Brown, Pulse Consult, Samclo Construction, Savills and Shakespeare Martineau. Joining these are Invest in Nottingham, the event’s media partner The Business Desk, PR agency Cartwright Communications, design agency Blimey Creative and design and print agency Ginger Root.
