Shortlist revealed for Family Business Awards

Previous winners of the Midlands Family Business Awards

Judges of the Midlands Family Business Awards have revealed the deserving finalists of 2019.

Some 51 regional family-owned businesses are through to the final stages of the UK’s independent, not-for-profit annual family business awards, with 33 finalists from the East Midlands and 18 from the West Midlands.

Following an extended deadline due to high interest, the 2019 Midlands Family Business Awards received the highest volume of interest to date with over 130 total entries after TheBusinessDesk.com was once again named media partner.

Finalists include family businesses across the transport, IT, manufacturing, hospitality and leisure, design, print and marketing, building, civil engineering, construction, property and development, food, veterinary, education, funeral services, healthcare, recruitment and retail industries.

With ten free-to-enter categories including Family Business of the Year, Fastest Growing Family Businesses, Employer of the Year, Best Small Family Business, Manufacturing Excellence, Corporate Social Responsibility and Service Excellence, ensuring an accolade suitable for every business.

Three new categories were added to mark the 10th anniversary of the awards, which are organised and backed by The Wilson Organisation – a Nottingham-based third-generation family business.

These categories have been added to celebrate and recognise the success, achievements and innovations of family-run businesses and to raise funds for local charities at the awards dinner – they are Next Generation Family Business Leader, Construction & Property Excellence and an extra special category called Rising Stars which supports newly established family businesses with a growth support package for 2020.

Group managing director of The Wilson Organisation, Charlotte Perkins, said: “We would like to say a big thank you to all family businesses that submitted applications. We had some really great interest this year and received a large number of high-calibre entries and this year’s entrants really demonstrated the exceptional standard of family businesses across the region.

“A big congratulations to all entrants through to the final stages of the awards and we look forward to seeing you all at the black-tie awards dinner on 7th November, where the winners and highly commended will be announced. Now in our tenth year, we are incredibly proud of how the awards have grown year on year and I believe that is testament to the volume and calibre of brilliant firms in the Midlands, and the fact that family businesses embrace celebrating their success and that of others.

“The awards are the UK’s only independent initiative dedicated to celebrating and recognising the success, achievements and innovations of family run and owned businesses, and the aim of them is to shine a light on the region’s talented and successful family businesses and play a real part in creating a community of likeminded and supportive individuals. We wish all finalists the best of luck when they come face to face with judges in the final round.”

Finalists will now meet the awards’ individual category independent judging panels, led by a leading individual of each family business, an industry expert, a sponsor representative and a representative from the Midlands Family Business Awards team. All finalists are entered into the People’s Choice Award, voted by the public.

Taking place on Thursday 7th November at the King Power Stadium in Leicester, the black-tie awards dinner attracts over 300 guests including awards finalists, independent judges and sponsors.

Main sponsors for the 2019 awards are OrderWise, Buckles Solicitors, PwC, Shakespeare Martineau, Streets Chartered Accountants and Ward Recycling.

The much-deserving Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance and The Midlands Air Ambulance are the charities that the awards will be supporting this year.
