Green light for major industrial and logistics warehouses

PLANS for two further industrial and logistics units totalling 328,000sq ft at a 64-acre site in Burton-upon-Trent have been given the go-ahead.

Regeneration specialist St Modwen has been successful in getting approval for the next phase of the Burton Gateway Business Park.

The two units, offering 108,000 and 220,000 sq ft of warehouse space, by were approved East Staffordshire Borough Council’s planning committee.

Representing one of the largest industrial and warehouse developments in the Midlands, Burton Gateway has outline planning consent for up to 1 million sq ft of industrial space suitable for storage, distribution and general industrial uses, with the option of individual units up to 300,000sq ft.

Ian Romano, senior development surveyor at St Modwen, said: “These latest approvals will allow us to continue to meet the shortage for prime quality industrial and logistics sheds on the A38, serving the Midlands market.”

St Modwen has already delivered the first phase of development at Burton Gateway, including dedicated access roads, a new roundabout and infrastructure to support the wider scheme, along with the first 87,716 sq ft warehouse.

The development is already attracting interest from national and international occupiers, with surrounding businesses including Pirelli, Boots, Unilever, Argos, Holland & Barratt, Toyota and Rolls Royce.

The new units will enjoy a prime position with direct access onto the A38, offering connections to the M42, M1, M6 and M6 (Toll) motorways.

Burton Gateway represents the commercial element of the wider Branston Leas community being delivered by St Modwen, which includes 660 new family homes, an extension to Rykneld Primary School, Branston Square convenience retail centre, and the new 82 acre Branston Leas Woods.
