Forest owner “6-8 weeks away” from selling club

Nottingham Forest owner and chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi has issued a statement saying that he is close to a deal to offload the struggling Championship side.

Although he doesn’t name the investor, he is thought to favour a £50m sale to an American consortium led by John Jay Moores, the former owner of Major League Baseball franchise San Diego Padres.

In a statement on Forest’s website last night, Al Hasawi said: “I would like to issue a brief statement regarding the progress made on the potential sale of Nottingham Forest Football Club.

“I can confirm that I have now entered an extended period of exclusivity with one potential investor. We expect this process to last between 6-8 weeks, but are working to close this deal as soon as possible.

“As I am sure you will understand I will not be issuing regular statements but I do want to honour my promise to keep the fans updated. This is obviously not the end of the process but I hope you will agree that this is a good start.

“Over this period, we will continue to work together to make decisions in the best long-term interests of the football club.”

Forest are just one point above the relegation zone in the Championship with just four wins in 15 games this season.
