North Midland wins £4.5m road works contracts

The Highways Division of North Midland Construction plc (NM Group) has been awarded a series of contracts worth over £4.5m to carry out various road works projects across the Midlands.

The first of these is a £2.3m contract for Lands Improvement Holdings, a strategic land development company, to carry out preliminary highways works (section 38) at a 97-acre site at Gateford North in Worksop.

This is in readiness for the construction of a new housing development that will see the construction of up to 750 new homes along with a new school and community open space with facilities.

The highways division of NM group has also been awarded two contracts by City of Wolverhampton Council that have a combined value of over £1m.

This includes the construction of a new shared cycleway and pedestrian zone between the city’s transport Interchange and the University of Wolverhampton’s new Springfield Campus. They are also carrying out the refurbishment of Pinfold Bridge, a road bridge over the Wyrley and Essington Canal, together with a steel footbridge adjacent to the road bridge.

Another contract won by the highways division recently is for Leicester City Council worth £650,000. This is to build a new 1km cycle circuit at New College in Leicester in partnership with British Cycling and the College.

The final contract in this series is a £650,000 highways improvement scheme for Lincolnshire County Council that will see the transformation of Sutterton Roundabout, located at the junction of the A16 and A17 near Boston in Lincolnshire.

This will involve the widening of the entries and exits to both arms of the A16 as well as the A17 arm to the west, together with resurfacing drainage and earthworks and the installation of new kerbing and road markings.

“We are delighted to have been awarded these new contracts and to have so much going on within the highways division of the company,” said Geoff Poyzer, managing director of the Highways division of NM Group.

“Some of the clients we have worked with before and others are new, which is a great mix. We’re looking forward to delivering these projects for our clients as well as for the benefit of local people in the respective areas.”
