Samworth Brothers snaps up Euphorium bakery

Leicestershire-based food manufacturer Samworth Brothers has swooped for a Surrey factory after Tesco announced that it is selling its Euphorium bakery.

Samworth, which is a supplier to Tesco, has bought the Euphorium factory after the supermarket giant decided to sell the bakery chain’s four high street stores and two factories just a year after taking full control of them.

Tesco will now take back ownership of the 57 in-store bakery concessions and smaller sites within its Express stores that were run by Euphorium.

According to reports “a small number” of managerial roles could be axed.

Samworth Brothers said: “We are delighted to be welcoming the former Euphorium Weybridge bakery into the Samworth Brothers family of businesses.

“The acquisition will add to our already extensive food-to-go offering and significantly extend our ambient capability. As a business, we have ambitious growth plans and this is a strong addition to the portfolio. It is also a business with an absolute dedication to product quality, customer service and innovation so a great fit with our own values at Samworth Brothers.”
