Silverstone owners decide against sale

One of the UK’s most iconic racing circuits is no longer for sale, according to its owners.

The British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC) says that Silverstone, the home of the British Grand Prix, has been taken off the market, but that the move “is not without risk”.

Those who have shown interest in buying Silverstone include the Jaguar Land Rover group and Motorsport Vision. However, both pulled out of bidding for the circuit before Christmas.

In a letter to members, BRDC chairman John Grant said: “After further reflection and, in particular, completion of the sale of Formula 1 to Liberty Media, the board has now decided to shelve discussions about a sale and continue on a go-it-alone basis.”

He said: “While this is not without risk, we feel sufficient confidence in the improved prospects for our business to justify this change of direction.”

Silverstone is expected to announce a significant loss this financial year.
