Tahini giant to invest £5m in Corby

Kuwaiti food manufacturer Al Seedawi will invest £5m over the next five years in its tahini production plant in Corby, the company has revealed.

Speaking to TheBusinessDesk.com, Tarek Sidawi, the company’s secretary said that it will start recruiting for the first of a projected 300 new jobs in the new year.

He said: “We will start recruiting in January 2017.

“We chose Corby for many reasons; its central location, neighbouring food factories, great help from the Council and the property being ex-food factory.
“Our total cost of project is “5m over the next five years. Phase one of the project is £2m which is already spent on machinery.
“Our future plans are to expand and increase our production from one ton per hour to three tons per hour which will increase our work force from 70 people to 300 people.”

Al Seedawi’s new UK operation will be based on the Oakley Hay industrial estate in Corby.

A spokesperson for Corby Borough Council told TheBusinessDesk.com: “We are still awaiting more detail on the project but are obviously very pleased.

“We do feel that our discretionary Rate Relief Policy is proving a very attractive incentive for firms moving into Corby along with the very positive approach of the local authority.”
