This week’s East Midlands news: Barratt boss arrested

Another week absolutely packed with big stories, but perhaps the biggest was the news that the London managing director of Coalville-based housebuilding giant Barratt was given a wake-up call by the police and arrested.

Alastair Baird was arrested with a former Barratt employee on Wednesday morning.

The latest development follows a referral in April by the listed firm to the Met of the initial findings of an internal investigation which dates back to August 2015.

One to follow, for sure.

In second place was our breaking news that GCI, the Lincoln and Derby managed IT service provider, has landed a £50m acquisition growth fund.

The fund was put together via the Royal Bank of Scotland and HSBC in a deal led by GCI’s CFO Mark Allen, and brokered with the support of KPMG.

The third most-popular story this week was another breaker – with Bombardier announcing another huge round of redundancies.

Bombardier, which has a significant presence in Derby, is set to cut 7,500 jobs – the second time it has shaved 10% off its workforce this year.
