92 Studio Apartments Proposed in Nottingham City Centre
A planning application has been submitted for the construction of 92 studio apartments with ground floor commercial space on the corner of Lower Parliament Street and Glasshouse Street in the centre of Nottingham.
The proposals are part new-build and part conversion. The 1920’s Portland stone clad building fronting Lower Parliament Street is retained, with the poorer quality and now derelict buildings behind demolished. Six stories are proposed for the Glasshouse Street elevation and four stories to the Claire Street side. The opportunity was also taken to introduce a new site entrance from Claire Street, rejuvenating what had become a dead-end and a poor public space.
The project was submitted by Rayner Davies Architects on behalf on local student operator Megaclose. Project architect Sam Critchlow said: “This is a site that is long overdue redevelopment. Some of the buildings here have been empty and derelict for longer than I can remember. We have now been able to create what will become a bustling and thriving corner of town”
Megaclose was established in 1998 with the aim of providing students with a wide range of quality accommodation within a half mile radius of the University. They have grown to become a highly regarded company providing accommodation for students attending both universities in Nottingham. They are now one of the largest specialist student accommodation providers in the region.
