Keeping up with the AdamsonJoneses

On Sunday 23rd April this year, Steve Jones, founder of AdamsonJones Nottingham and Leicester-based patent and trade mark attorneys, took on an epic challenge with his family to raise funds for Narcolepsy UK – to collectively run 150 km in one day.

Steve has for several years now been a volunteer Trustee of Narcolepsy UK, a national medical charity. His younger daughter suffers from narcolepsy, a rare neurological disorder with around 30,000 sufferers in the UK. The most obvious symptom is an irresistible need to sleep several times each day which can have serious repercussions for sufferers in all aspects of their lives, including education, employment and personal relationships.

Narcolepsy UK is a small charity relying entirely on donations to keep going, so Steve and his family decided to join forces to do what they could to help.

Steve’s son, Lewis, entered the London Marathon in support of the charity, his first ever marathon. Whilst Steve, in an act of paternal solidarity, also decided to take on the 26.2 miles for the first time, in his sixtieth year. Steve chose to run the Longhorn Marathon in Sherwood Forest, which took place on Sunday 23rd April, the same day as the London Marathon. Lewis completed his race in a time of 04:07:11 with Steve finishing Longhorn just minutes behind his son in an impressive 4:09:45 and coming first in his age category.

Steve’s wife, Diana, and their eldest daughter Alison, successfully completed the Longthorn half marathon at the same time as Bridget, the youngest daughter, covered the 10k distance. Not to be left out, Steve’s granddaughters, Anna and Madeleine, and his son-in-law Dave, ran the Longhorn 5k although technically Madeleine was being carried on her Daddy’s back!

Steve said ‘I’m incredibly proud of the whole family as we’ve managed to raise just short of £,6000, which is a fantastic achievement, not to mention the number of miles we’ve covered!”
