IoD and LBS Support the Region's Business Leaders

30th June 2008

Fifteen business leaders and entrepreneurs from across Yorkshire were presented with certificates and diplomas in Company Direction at an event hosted by the Yorkshire branch of the Institute of Directors (IoD) and Leeds Business School (LBS), part of Leeds Metropolitan University.

Ten directors and chief executives were awarded the IoD Company Direction Certificate following completion of the six module programme that provides essential knowledge for directors and five company leaders received the IoD Company Direction Diploma after completing a further module designed to challenge, broaden and strengthen directors’ understanding of strategic management thinking at board room level.

The IoD Director’s Programme has been delivered by Leeds Business School since 1998 and was established for directors wishing to gain a recognised and credible qualification to enable them to improve their personal and professional effectiveness and thereby promote the continued success of their business. The highly flexible programmes, which allow directors to mix and match modules to best suit their management and development needs, are made up of short, practical courses which offer the latest in business thinking and explore many critical issues facing senior professionals

Ann Roylance, Programme Co-ordinator at the Centre for Education at Leeds Business School comments: “The IoD Director’s Programmes are extremely worthwhile qualifications for both business beginners and established professionals.

“Both the certificate and the more advanced diploma incorporate a range of practical and relevant information for today’s business world to enhance the skills and expertise of our region’s professionals to the ultimate benefit of the companies they run.”

John Thompson, regional director for the IoD in Yorkshire and the Humber, adds: “The IoD’s goal is to raise the bar in boardrooms throughout the region by providing Yorkshire’s business leaders with a unique learning environment to equip them with the tools needed to meet the challenges of a modern and dynamic business environment.”

The certificates and diplomas were presented by Dr Brian Whittington, Dean - Faculty of Leeds Met’s Business & Law and Director of Leeds Business School at a Summer Garden Party held at Hazlewood Castle Hotel on Wednesday 18 June.
