Food business tucks into growth as revenues rise 34%

Ingredient distributor Direct Food Ingredients says it is on course for a record breaking year after reporting 34% growth for the first half of 2017, reaching turnover of £10.7m compared to £7.6m in the prior year period.

The rapidly expanding Macclesfield-based business, which also has an office in Los Angeles, says it is continuing to drive sales with new and current customers and strengthening its product ranges within categories such as food and beverage, sports nutrition, animal and pet nutrition and nutraceuticals.

Commercial director Brigg Simpson said: “The team has worked exceptionally well over the past six months, meeting the needs of customers new and old. We’ve had excellent growth across all industries we serve and our ability to offer a wide range of products, all of which are quality assured by ourselves, has really strengthened our position within the market.”

Direct Food Ingredients says it is set for another record-breaking year and is on course to hit £23m by the end of 2017. The business exceeded £17.6m at year end in 2016.

Managing director Steve Loake added: “The long-term investments we’ve made in our quality systems and our fantastic staff has enabled us to continue to grow and become the UK’s largest privately owned ingredient distributor.”

The company, which employs 22 staff, imports, stores and distributes functional foods, nutritional and sports ingredients as well as vitamin and mineral premixes.
