Liverpool Vision and Elstat triumph in China awards

LIVERPOOL Vision, the agency behind the city’s successful investment in the Shanghai World Expo lat year, was one of the major winners in the North West West Greater China Awards.

It won the China Recognition Award 2011 for its delivery of the Liverpool Pavillion at the six-month long international showcase. The interactive Pavillion welcomed more than 770,000 visitors and will deliver major economic benefits to Liverpool and the wider region in terms of tourism, education and inward investment.

The Peel Group – the major sponsor of the Liverpool Pavillion – was runner up in the recognition category, which was sponsored by UK Trade and Investment and the North West Development Agenc.

It is for individuals or organisations that have made a significant contribution to developing links with Greater China during 2010.

Philomena Chen, head of Asia Pacific development for UK Trade & Investment, said;
“Liverpool’s involvement in the Shanghai World Expo, and the success of the Pavilion were key to demonstrating Liverpool’s commitment to Shanghai and China, positioning the city well with key decision makers and Chinese businesses.

The winners were announced at the Greater China Awards and Chinese New Year Dinner last Friday at the Lowry Theatre in Salford Quays. The awards were also supported by Finnair and Manchester Airport

Fast-growing green technology group Elstat Electronics on Preston won the China Business Award for the region.

The company which designs, develops, manufactures and distribute energy saving thermostats for use in commercial refrigeration, has businesses in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, China.

Last year its export turnover via subsidiaries in Greater China rose by 40% and accounted for over 50% of the group’s turnover in total.

Runner up was Manchester-based EDM Limited, a specialist engineering business providing training and simulation equipment to aerospace, defence, rail and museum customers. 

Also shortlisted were BMP Europe Ltd (Lancashire), Mudskipper Business Ltd (Cheshire) and Suttons Group (Cheshire).

Two North West universities, Manchester Metropolitan and the University of Chester were named as winner and runner up for the China Education Links award.

The award is given to the North West organisation which has demonstrated the most success in establishing educational links with Greater China, encouraging a two way flow of students, personnel and expertise.

MMU has established many links with partners in Greater China over the years, and the University has opened an office in Guangzhou, China, in support of their China Strategy. 

Approximately 2,000 Chinese Educators have been involved in teaching and learning with MMU.
