Sport Media on track despite bad weather

THE publisher of the Daily Sport and Sunday Sport newspapers said it performed “broadly in line” with management expectations last year despite bad winter weather affecting newspaper circulation.

In a pre-close trading update for the year to December 31 the Manchester-based group said earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) should be above £1m.

Newspaper circulation was “steady” until October but bad weather affected deliveries in the last two months, particularly in Scotland.

The group’s digital business, which sends content including “adult” material to mobile phones, had a better year, said the group, and its Telecom2 business, “finished the year strongly”.

“As previously announced we have secured our funding through to March 2013 and continue to have constructive discussions with our lenders with regards to reducing the debt burden within the group,” said the update.

Full-year figures will be published in April.
