BILL Gates has doubled his stake in the Wigan sportswear retailer JJB Sports.

The Microsoft billionaire's charitable foundation took advantage of the group's recent £100m placing and share offer by buying an extra 30.1 million shares.

The trade gives the foundation 6.4% of the enlarged share capital, up from 3.14%.

Statements issued by the company also show that four directors have each been gifted options over 5.9 million shares as part of the fundraising.
