Salford Uni strikes Pittsburgh deal

THE University of Salford has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) at Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Mellon University.

The partnership will see Salford collaborating with the arts and technology institution on a number of projects designed to share knowledge in digital, media and creative subjects.

It will include student exchanges, and the development of new postgraduate courses based around digital and creative subjects. There is also scope for the sharing of library resources and staff.

Salford is preparing to open its new facility at MediaCity where 1,500 students will work and study alongside major media organisations like the BBC and ITV.

As part of this move, Salford has a number of collaborations, such as an acoustics partnership with the BBC and a research agreement with BT.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Martin Hall said: “Our move to MediaCity is about creating links – not just in the North West and the UK – but internationally, and Carnegie Mellon fits with our objectives perfectly.

“Carnegie Mellon is a global leader in digital and creative teaching and research, and both institutions stand to benefit significantly from this partnership.”
