Angie Robinson is to step down as chief executive of convention centre Manchester Central, after almost six years in the role.

She is retiring in June 2017 after a 40-year career which saw her as chief executive of Manchester’s inward investment agency MIDAS and also as chief executive of Greater Manchester Chamber.

Robinson has overseen a period of significant investment and growth at the convention centre, which attracts around half a million visitors to the city each year and generates an average economic impact of £75m.

2016 has been its strongest ever financial year, hosting political party conferences, international and national conferences, trade and public exhibitions, gala banquets, as well as television and sporting competitions.

Angie Robinson, chief executive of Manchester Central, said: “After nearly six great years, I feel the time is right to hand over the stewardship of this fantastic venue so that I can pursue other activities and spend time with my three beloved grandchildren.

“I’m so proud of everything we have achieved as a team during my time at the venue and I have no doubt that there will be many more successes in the future.”

The board if Manchester Central said it will announce its new chief executive in due course.
