Vehicle repair business on the road to further growth with £5m turnover target

A vehicle repair garage in Haydock which launched three years ago with one member of staff has grown to employ 26 people and now has clients including Asda and Tesco.

Eye Commercials, established by Bill Flanagan in July 2014 with the help of family members, is an Iveco-authorised repair centre carrying out repairs and servicing on commercial vehicles.

Far from being an inexperienced start-up operation, Flanagan brought more than 30 years’ experience working with trucks, vans, trailers and electronics to the fledgling business, which will turnover £1.5m this year.

Flanagan, a qualified mechanical and electrical engineer, started working on planes with the RAF. Throughout his career, he has worked on numerous design projects, inventing and creating systems for vehicles from fuel saving systems and loading bay reverse warning, to Bluetooth wheel nut devices and voice activated alarms on buses.

Flanagan said: “Just over three years ago, the business started with me, a tool box and one very large warehouse. Today we employ 26 staff and have a turnover this year of £1.5m. The pace at which our business has grown is amazing and we’ve secured some great contracts including Asda and Tesco. Our team work together, thus creating what we have today, a positive proactive and nurturing work environment.

“However, such a period of growth has been incredibly difficult to manage and would not have been possible without the support and expert advice from our Barclays relationship team, Lee Hunt and Danni Roberts. With the banks’ support, we have grown in confidence and we intend to increase our turnover past £5m in the next five years.”

Hunt added: “Eye Commercials is a fantastic company to work with and I have enjoyed building a strong partnership with the management team over the last few years. Bill’s experience coupled with the energy and passion of all the staff has quickly established the brand in a short space of time and we look forward to seeing the business grow over the months and years ahead.”
