Search on for greatest amateur cricket clubs

The search for the nation’s greatest amateur cricket clubs is open to the North West.

‘Bowled Over’ is a new competition run region-by-region across the UK which aims to showcase the best things about British cricket.

Jeremy Goodacre of BusinessInsuranceFor.com, who organised the award, said: “Cricket, as a quintessentially British sport, is steeped in centuries of tradition, however local clubs deserve as much credit as the elite teams for inspiring our nation to pick up a bat.

“We wanted to launch a campaign which celebrates the best amateur cricket clubs across Britain to highlight the great locations, unique pavilions, inspiring members and real impact on local communities that these clubs have.”

Clubs can put themselves forward by uploading a photograph or video of themselves at www.BusinessInsuranceFor.com/Bowled-Over along with 100 words describing what makes them special.

Judging will be based around a range of criteria including community activities and the beauty of the club’s setting.

The deadline has been extended to Tuesday April 4 when entries will close and finalist will be chosen by a public vote and a panel of expert judges.

The judging panel comprises of Colin Graves, chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Guy Evans-Tipping, chief executive of The Cricketer Magazine and Wayne Greve, co-founder of LastManStands.com.

The winner will receive a commemorative plaque whilst those who nominate could win £300 to spend on sporting equipment site www.morrant.com.
