Distrelec chooses Manchester to consolidate European hub

Distrelec, part of the Swiss Dätwyler group, is to open a new European office and its first UK operation in Manchester city centre.

The distributor of maintenance, automation, electronics, measurement technology and IT components is centralising some of its European functions in Manchester, consolidating them from Sweden, Germany, Switzerland and Italy, and creating over 100 new jobs in the city.

The company said it selected Manchester because it had the best availability of talent and infrastructure, beating off competition from Berlin and seven other major European cities.

It has agreed a 10-year lease for the entire seventh floor of 2 St Peter’s Square, the new Grade A office building in the city centre that has been developed by Mosley Street Ventures and funded by Deutsche Asset Management.

Known as the ‘Enterprise Hub’ the office will house all Distrelec’s product, supplier, inventory management, purchasing, e-commerce and marketing functions and will be integral to its ongoing transition to a digital based business.

A recruitment drive for the 100 roles, covering a wide salary spectrum, is being handled by Hays in Manchester.

James Sykes, director, Hays North West, said: “The roles available are a direct link to Manchester’s digitally skilled workforce, with opportunities in collaborating with suppliers, online marketing and sales. The move from Distrelec is also particularly pertinent as Manchester’s technology sector is set to be a key focus for newly elected Mayor, Andy Burnham.”

Sixteen Real Estate is advising Distrelec on its relocation and ADT is undertaking the design and fit out works.
