New airline takes off for ski season

New airline Powdair has announced it will be flying from Sion, Switzerland, to Manchester.

The company will run the route into the popular ski destination of Valais twice a week from December 2017 onwards.

This will significantly cut transfer times for ski enthusiasts flying to some of Switzerland’s most popular resorts and prices will average around £140 each way including ski carriage.

Manchester Airport will have flights departing on Thursdays and Saturdays every week, commencing on December 16.

Commercial director for Manchester Airport, Stephen Turner, said: “With 26.5 million passengers, and constantly adding new routes and airlines like Powdair, we will continue to aim to provide as much choice and direct routes as possible for all traveller types, be those looking for ski, snow, sun or sea.”

Powdair is a snow-sports airline based in Sion in the Valais region of Switzerland and will be running from a variety of destinations in the UK plus Hamburg, Germany, and Antwerp, Belgium.

Zoë Ombler, head of marketing for Powdair, said: “We know there’s a healthy community of skiers and snowboarders in the North West region and many people we spoke to were excited at the prospect of flying into the heart of the Alps, to an airport not currently serviced by anyone else.”
