Plans submitted for £40m Salford development

Worrall Street

Developer Forshaw Land and Property Group has unveiled £40m plans for over 250 new apartments in an up-and-coming area of Salford.

The Bolton firm is seeking approval for three buildings ranging from seven to eight storeys, comprising 252 apartments at Worrall Street, Ordsall, Salford.

It has appointed national planning and development consultancy Lichfields, formerly Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners, to take forward the proposals with plans submitted to Salford City Council this week. DLA Design are the architects for the scheme.

Lichfields says the development will support over 200 jobs and bring a near £30m boost to the local economy.

Nathan Matta, associate director at the Manchester office of Lichfields, said: “The proposal will create a high quality and well–designed residential development that will result in the removal of existing unsightly industrial buildings and will significantly enhance the local neighbourhood.

“This exciting development responds positively to the council’s aspirations for the area through its high quality design and accommodation mix.”

The development consists of a mix of 124 one-bedroom apartments, 21 two-bedroom duplex apartments, 80 two-bedroom apartments, one three-bedroom duplex apartment and 26 three-bedroom apartments. It will include public space improvements, landscaping and car parking.

Lichfields’ economic analysis shows the £41m scheme will sustain 211 on-site construction jobs and support 319 off-site jobs in construction related industries over the one-and-a-half-year build.

Matta added: “The proposed development will support the creation of a strong, vibrant and healthy community and provide a new area of high-quality public realm.”
