Now developer unveils second multi-million pound apartments development for Salford

Derwent Street

Plans for a £35m landmark building next to the River Irwell in Salford have been unveiled by Bolton developer Forshaw Land and Property Group.

The proposals for Derwent Street in the Ordsall area, would provide 183 apartments, range from 11 to 27 storeys in height and include a cinema, gym and retail kiosk for residents.

Plans have been submitted to Salford City Council by national planning and development consultancy Lichfields (formerly Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners) on behalf of Forshaws earlier this month. DLA Design are the architects.

Only last month, Forshaw revealed plans for a separate £40m development of 250 new apartments in the Worrall Street area of Ordsall.

Lichfields say the latest development would support over 230 jobs during the 18 month construction period.

Nathan Matta, associate director at the Manchester office of Lichfields, said: “This is an underused brownfield site located in a highly sustainable urban area. “

“The proposals fit in with the goal of transforming the Ordsall Riverside Corridor, and this gateway location means the development can become a landmark building on the Salford side of the River Irwell.”

The proposed development comprises a mix of one, two and and three-bedroom apartments and will improve and enhance an existing area of open space transforming the connection between the development and the riverside walk. Extensive cycle parking provision is also included by way of safe and secure areas located in the basement of the building.

When complete Lichfields estimate the new residents will spend approximately £2.3m a year in the local area, boosting the local economy and supporting some 25 new jobs.

If approved by the council work will start on the development in 2018.
