Manchester-based event management company the Taylor Lynn Corporation has appointed Ellie Barnes as its operations director.

Formerly a senior event producer for the company, Barnes became a shareholder in TLC in 2016 and has now up her new role managing TLC’s busy day-to-day operation.

Barnes has worked for TLC for five years, and now takes over responsibility for managing the TLC events team and day-to-day event planning, managing venue and supplier relationships and overseeing all event operations.

She said: “No two days are ever the same at TLC.  We work at a lightening pace and our clients demand the highest quality and a great attention to detail.

“And, I thrive on it.  The new role will give me greater responsibility within the business including management of our amazing team, and the creative scope to push our conference and event production values and expectations even further.”

Company founder and managing director Liz Taylor will take responsibility for strategic development and spearheading sales and marketing at TLC, and remains involved in the company’s events work by overseeing the major events schedule.

Barnes’ new role will also allow Taylor to invest time in developing TLC’s latest service – venue marketing consultancy.

Taylor saud: “With Ellie taking a greater management role in the business, I am in a strong position to develop our additional services such as designing festive decor for commercial spaces and venues, and the venue consultancy.

“I am also working on a number of media and entertainment projects that will come to fruition later this year.  It’s non-stop.”

Marketing company BDB has further strengthened its team with four new appointments in its Altrincham, Greater Manchester head office.

The latest recruits include an account manager, an account executive, a technical content manager and a finance manager.

In the first of the new additions to the team, Laura Stoker joins the agency as an account manager from Refresh PR.

Since graduating with a degree in English Literature, Laura has gained experience in a variety of industries including food and drink, construction, manufacturing and the charitable giving sector.

At BDB, she will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of integrated marketing campaigns across the agency’s nutrition, coatings and manufacturing portfolios.

Megan Cutts joins the team as an account executive from Triangle PR and has worked in a range of sectors from insurance to technology and social care.

She has varied experience in marketing and PR, and held a number of positions and internships while studying at Durham University. At BDB, Megan will work across the agency’s life sciences, nutrition and manufacturing accounts, where she will be responsible for client liaison, media relations and technical copywriting.

Lucy Brice has been appointed as technical content manager. Having previously worked at BDB for over three years, Lucy has rejoined the agency to provide specified copywriting across all of its accounts and platforms.  With a degree in French and Italian from the University of Warwick, Lucy also boosts BDB’s languages offering, supporting the team with translations and proof-reading.

Meanwhile, Alex Calder has also arrived as finance manager from London based digital agency, Critical Mass. With a masters degree in finance, Calder is an ACCA qualified accountant and has worked within the retail, health and digital marketing sectors. At BDB, Calder will be responsible for managing finances across the business and providing commercial support to the team.

Independent commercial building surveying firm Malcolm Hollis P has promoted David Hooson Jones to the position of senior associate at its Liverpool office.

David has experience across many areas including contract administration, party walls, condition and pre-acquisition surveys and development monitoring within both the public and private sectors.

Alison Mitchell has been appointed executive director of Sensor City in a landmark move for the collaborative venture between Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Liverpool, one of four flagship University Enterprise Zones in the country, which will drive sensor technology and development across the UK.

An alumna of both university partners of Sensor City, Mitchell will help to establish Sensor City as a national asset for emerging technologies, placing Liverpool and the UK at the forefront of world innovation in the sector.

Mitchell brings a wealth of high level industry experience to benefit this new role. She joins Sensor City from BT Business where she was Chief Information Officer and helped to transform the telecom giant’s products, services and technical delivery.

She said: “I am truly excited to be leading Sensor City. Sensor technology is driving the next generation of products and innovations that can transform lives and the economy.  The technology that will be developed at Sensor City will support a modern industrial strategy and boost productivity across a range of sectors from health to transport.”

International law firm DAC Beachcroft has unveiled Andrew Clare as a legal director in its Manchester corporate team.

Prior to joining the firm, Clare spent three years in Toyko acting as senior legal counsel for global management, consulting and professional services company, Accenture.

He has also worked in the corporate finance teams at several US firms, including Baker & McKenzie, Squire Patton Boggs and Latham & Watkins.

Clare joins DAC Beachcroft’s national Corporate team, which comprises in excess of 40 lawyers who acted on more than 90 completed transactions in 2016 with an aggregate value above £1bon.

Clare’s specialist areas include advising on mergers and acquisitions in public and private sectors, private equity, equity capital markets and outsourcing.  His practice focuses on the technology and life sciences sectors, particularly in the context of large, complex cross-border outsourcing arrangements.

Having worked and studied in Japan, Andrew also has particular expertise in advising Japanese businesses both in Japan and the UK and is able to work in the Japanese language.
