New retail art gallery launching in city

A new retail art gallery is to open in Liverpool.

Boasting 2,636sq ft of prime retail space, the state-of-the-art Castle Fine Art gallery will open next Saturday (July 1) on Church Alley opposite the Bluecoat, in the heart of the city centre.

The Church Alley gallery is Castle Fine Art’s first site in Liverpool and joins its portfolio of 34 galleries across the UK as it continues its rapid nationwide expansion.

After nearly two months of renovation work, the building, which was formerly occupied by clothing retailer, Taking Shape, underwent a custom refit to offer the ultimate customer experience for visitors to the gallery.

A bespoke lighting system and specially designed viewing room have been put in place to complement the wide range of art on display, which includes work by some of the art scene elite, from Bob Dylan to Ronnie Wood and Raphael Mazzucco.

The new gallery will be managed by Gordon Farmer, who is returning to his home city of Liverpool after a successful stint at Castle Fine Art in York to oversee the day to day operations of the gallery and assist customers wanting to learn more about the artwork on offer.

Enjoying more than two decades at the top of its industry, Castle Fine Art is part of the Halcyon Group, one of the largest art groups in the world.

Since it was established, the company has succeeded in making fine art more accessible, bringing the art world’s contemporary talents to the high street.

Consistently produced to the highest quality, every piece of art hanging on Castle Fine Art’s walls is made by Washington Green, the UK’s leading fine art publisher.

Ian Weatherby-Blythe, group managing director of Castle Fine Art and Washington Green, said: “With its rich and diverse culture, we couldn’t think of a better investment than to open our newest gallery in Liverpool.

“The gallery’s unique design and the exciting programme of exhibitions and events that will be taking place year round are set to redefine the way the city’s people experience, view and buy art, and we can’t wait to welcome our first visitors.”

Farmer said: “I’m delighted to be returning home to continue my career as part of Castle Fine Art in Liverpool.

“The impressive design and layout of the new gallery will make for a fantastic experience for visitors and staff alike, and the location in the centre of the city’s cultural scene is ideal to house the work of some of the best artists in the industry.”
