Law firm to grow corporate team on back of £200m in deals

The Manchester office of national law firm Mills & Reeve is looking to further bolster its corporate team after advising on deals worth more than £200m this year.

The team has more than doubled in size over the last 18 months to include two partners and five associates and is keen to make further senior appointments to meet the demand from its UK and international client base looking to complete transactions.

Corporate partner Chris Ross, based in the corporate and commercial group in Manchester, said iotcompleted more than 20 deals in the financial year to end of May 2017 for new and existing clients and deal size has increased significantly.

Transactions include the acquisition of a specialist online blinds retailer by Hunter Douglas, the $2.55bn turnover window coverings manufacturer; advising a media and entertainment group on an extensive ‘buy and build’ festival strategy involving the acquisition of nine music festivals; and the £33m disposal of a major hotel development in London Docklands.

Ross said: “Having significantly increased the size of the team we are really pleased to see a record year of transactions for the Manchester corporate team. We are actively recruiting senior corporate lawyers to the team and look forward to an even busier 12 months in the next financial year.”

The Manchester team is part of the national corporate group which has enjoyed a record year for corporate deal completions and rose up Experian’s 2016 M&A market review. The group ranks seventh nationally and 15th in Europe for number of deals.
