Space in iconic Edgar Wood’s Building up for grabs

Edgar Wood's Building

Commercial property agent Canning O’Neill has been appointed to market space in a landmark 6,000sq ft building, designed by renowned architect Edgar Wood on the outskirts of Manchester city centre.

Built in 1903 for the First Church of Christ Scientist, the Edgar Wood’s Building has been described as one of the most original projects of its time in England.

Located on Daisy Bank Road in Victoria Park, just off the A34, the building offers organisations a rare opportunity to relocate to the property.

The development is set within its own landscaped grounds of about one acre, including on-site car parking. It is in close proximity to a number of University residences, Manchester University itself, the NHS Hospital and The Whitworth Gallery.

Mark Canning, director at Canning O’Neill, sole agents for the scheme, said: “Seldom does a building with such a history become available.

“It was formerly used as an office but the scheme’s configuration lends itself to a variety of uses from a restaurant and wedding venue to a clinic, banqueting hall or of course a place of worship.

“We also understand that the existing structure could be extended in the area shown. subject to planning and local planning consent.”

A  spokesperson for JPS Real Estate, which owns the building, said: “This is a truly iconic building in every sense of the word.

“Born in 1860, Edgar Wood practised from Manchester at the start of the 190s and gained a considerable reputation for being involved in the Arts and Craft movement which was prevalent between 1860 and 1910.

“Today the building still attracts a huge amount of interest and we believe that this opportunity will appeal to a wide range of organisations that are looking to relocate to somewhere with a slightly different offer.”
