Deal struck to bring Alchemist to Nottingham

11 King Street

Alchemist, the fast-growing chain of bars, is set to finally open a Nottingham outlet just months after having its licensing application turned down by Nottingham City Council.

Alchemist will move into 11 King Street, the site of the former Tropeiro and Hard Rock Cafe restaurants, in a deal brokered by boutique commercial property agency Box Property.

The news comes after Alchemist was turned down for a drinks licence for 11-15 Pelham Street. Nottingham City Council licensing panel said the new bar was planned in a saturation zone, which means no new bars could open unless it could be proven that they would not affect crime rates in the area.

However, the Box Property-brokered deal to take on 11 King Street is imminent and will be the first Alchemist bar and restaurant in the East Midlands. Others are located in London, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Birmingham, Alderley Edge and Newcastle.

Speaking exclusively to TheBusinessDesk.com, Simon Potts, managing director, Alchemist Bar & Restaurants, said: “We’re really looking forward to bringing The Alchemist to the vibrant city of Nottingham. The venue is magnificent and we are busy finalising the design to reflect the heritage and striking nature of the building. We love the location, in the heart of the city and feel our great all-day dining offer and theatrical cocktails will be a popular addition to the city’s excellent food and drink community.”

Ben Tebbut of Box Property said: “This is a flagship deal for both Box Property and Nottingham – and perhaps the most exciting letting in years for the city.

“11 King Street is one of Nottingham’s finest buildings and we’re delighted to have worked on a deal which will bring a great operator to Nottingham. We have no doubt that Alchemist will be a huge success in the city.”
