Co-op invests £1m in two new stores

Co-op

The Co-op is set to serve-up two new food stores in Greater Manchester next following a £1m investment creating up to 35 new jobs.

The new stores – on Palatine Road, Northenden and Talbot Road, Hyde – both launch on July 27.

Both stores will offer an in-store bakery, food-to-go, and a Costa coffee dispenser alongside its usual groceries and essentials.

Paul Faulkner, regional manager, said: “The Co-op is moving forward with a clear purpose and momentum. Our ambition is to establish our stores as a local hub, an asset for the community.

“We want shoppers to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op. We are also giving back to the community. Our members can make a difference locally, simply by swiping their membership card when they shop with us they can raise much needed funding for organisations in their area who contribute to improving local life.”

Good causes and charities locally initially set to benefit from the Co-op’s membership scheme include: St Catherine’s Scout and Cubs Group – which is raising money for a new minibus; Didsbury Good Neighbours, the Albert Club which is raising funds for an outdoor play and recreational area for young members, Harry’s Holiday Hangout; Tameside Sight and, Tameside South and Longdendale Foodbank.

Last year, the Co-op opened over 100 new stores. It has ambitions to open a similar amount this year and in subsequent years.
