A Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurant on King Street in the heart of Manchester has closed after just five it was launched.

Suri was opened by Terence Langley, co-owner of Fazenda in Spitalfields and property consultants Andrea George and James Coubrough, at the site of the former Quill eatery, with Guy Callister heading the culinary team.

An automated message from the restaurant’s e-mail address said: “Due to unavoidable unforeseen circumstances, Suri has now had to close its doors for good. We would like to thank all of those who have enjoyed our fantastic food during our brief time in the sun.”

Its Twitter and Facebook accounts just states: “Yes it’s true” referring to an article published by the Manchester Evening News (MEN) .

Langley told the MEN: “It’s a real shame. I think ultimately we misread the market with this particular concept and style of offering. All the people involved gave their all to it, but the one single missing ingredient perhaps was its authenticity.

“The site is in an amazing location and a great building. Something exciting might just happen there in the future.”
