Schools out spells shredding boom for Cheshire firm

Topwood, the Cheshire-based scanning, shredding and data storage business, is experiencing a surge of sales after about 8.6 million school children left for the summer break.

The need for data storage is as its yearly peak as office spaces are cleared out and classrooms vacated for the summer months.

According to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), there was a 22% increase in the loss or theft of paperwork in 2017, The ICO suggested that these figures were a result of problems with effective disposal of paper records.

Managing director Tom Gilruth said: “The end of year rush to complete and clear out paperwork and prepare for the fresh start in September means there’s high demands for our services. We’ve made every preparation to be ready from increasing our storage capacities to investing in the latest MDX mobile shredding trucks with cross-cut technology.”

As schools and universities clean out cupboards, shelves and files, shredding or secure storage will be increasingly important to ensure the safe storage disposal of any sensitive personal data.

Topwood’s data storage services have been expanded and are now capable of holding more than 5 million documents – including archive boxes, medical records, financial files and electronic media, the company serves clients and customers around Manchester, Liverpool, Chester, Wrexham and other parts of the North West and North Wales.
