L’Enclume is rated top restaurant in NW

The two Michelin-star L’Enclume restaurant at Cartmel in Cumbria has been listed second in a list of the 50 top restaurants in the UK.

L’Enclume is one of six North West eateries to figure in the prestigious Waitrose Good Food Guide, and received a maximum 10 cooking score.

The five AA Rosette restaurant is run by chef Simon Rogan and his partner Penny Tapsell. Since opening in 2002, L’Enclume has received much critical praise, including a rating of 10 out of 10 five times.

The second-highest ranked in the region is Fraiche at Birkenhead on the Wirral which boasts one Michelin star, and was placed 14th nationally with a cooking score of eight.

Adam Reid at The French, in Manchester’s Midland Hotel weighed in at number third in the North West and 17th nationally and also had an eight score.

Moor Hall, at Aughton in Lancashire was fourth, 26th nationally (seven score); Forest Side at Grasmere in the Lake District (seven score) was fifth, 30th nationally and the Freemasons at Wiswell in Lancashire was sixth, 44th nationally (seven score).
