International Beatle Week lands in Liverpool next week. The event,  organised by Cavern City Talks, celebrates the most famous band of all time in the city where it all began, Liverpool.

It is set to bring thousands of people from across the world to the city and 70 bands are set to perform during the week at venues across the city, including The Cavern, the Philharmonic Hall and Alma De Cuba, in celebration of The Beatles. The annual Beatles convention will also take place during the celebration.

But with the annual celebration of The Beatles just around the corner, we wanted to know what business figures’ and TheBusinessDesk.com’s readers love most about the band, and more importantly, the impossible question; what is your favourite Beatles song and why?

With 12 studio albums, 13 EPs and 22 singles, there is a lot to choose from. Here is what they chose…

Max Steinberg, chief executive of Liverpool Vision

“My favourite Beatles song is In My Life – a beautiful melody with intensely poignant lyrics, I just love it.”

David Williams, co-founder of Independent Liverpool

“That’s such a hard decision. On a night out in Liverpool when Hey Jude comes on there’s nothing like it, but personally I’d have to say Let It Be. It reminds me a lot of my Nan, she used to quote the lyrics to me whenever I came to her with problems so the lyrics mean a lot to me.”

Gemma Bodinetz, artistic director at the Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse

“I know it’s cheating, but I choose side two of the Abbey Road LP (in old money) – basically ‘Here Comes the Sun’ through to ‘Golden Slumbers’.

“This was the soundtrack to my childhood and I still think it’s a masterpiece. Once I lowered the needle on the second side it had to be listened to as one continuous track, so I think it just about counts. It’s the whole of human experience from dawn ‘til sleep, in one continuous magical, musical journey.”

Nisha Katona, founder of Mowgli Street Food

“Come together, because it is subversive, clever and has a Dr Seuss sense about it. My husband is a classical guitarist and plays a fantastic version of this blending it with some blue grass virtuosity.”

Paul Shannon, CEO at ANS Group

“My favourite Beatles song is Something. I much prefer the Beatles in their edgier latter years, rather than the poppy early years.  I’ve never really been a fan of “love songs”, but this is just an awesome song that has also been covered to massive impact by lots of other artists I like, such as Isaac Hayes, Ray Charles and James Brown.

“It’s an absolute timeless classic, that I could listen to over and over again with the headphones on. Love it.”

Oliver Press, co-founder of Independent Liverpool

“I’d have to say While My Guitar Gently Weeps. It’s not a traditional love song but it is still quite romantic. It’s not a particularly happy song but it still makes me happy. George Harrison wrote it also and he’s my favourite.”

Robyn Dooley , founder of Innovators Hub

“Mine would be The Yellow Submarine because not only does it remind me of standing on the stairs outside of The Beatles museum when I was in primary school with my year group singing the song at the top of our lungs as people walked in, but it’s also one of them magical songs where no matter where you are in the world, people will know it lyric by lyric and they’ll sing it with you.”

Mark Anderson, business development, sales and marketing professional at Digital Allies

“In ‘Norwegian Wood’ John sings ‘She asked me to stay and she told me to sit anywhere, So I looked around and I noticed there wasn’t a chair’. I was a boy of 12 or 13 when I first heard the song. I saw this lyric as an invitation to break the rules, to do things differently.

“The Indian influence in the melody, the sexual overtones; it all hinted at exciting opportunities ahead. I felt it spoke to me and encouraged what I was feeling at the time. It remains a favourite today.”
