Spanish bar and deli expanding after founders inject £150K

The family-owned Catalonian restaurant bar and deli Lunya is relocating to larger premises at its Liverpool ONE home

It will move from College Lane to the new 5,500sq ft outlet on Hanover Street, opposite BBC Radio Merseyside, after founders Elaine and Peter Kinsella injected £150,000 of investment.

This will create 10 additional jobs taking its total headcount in Liverpool to 55. Lunya also has an outlet at Barton Arcade in Manchester, fronting on to Deansgate.

The Kinsellas say Lunya’s new location will provide the brand with a significant shop-front onto Hanover Street and will offer more integrated dining, bar and deli room, while “maintaining the cosy and elegant styling the brand has become famed for”.

They say the restaurant and bar will serve the best of Spanish gastronomy in a relaxed and informal setting, with a huge array of Spanish wines, spirits, beers and gins, whilst the deli will offer the best products from Spain.

The new Hanover Street location will also allow Lunya to consolidate its business, expanding the range available in its deli and increasing the number and size of its regular events, which range from wine and food tasting evenings to gin experiences.

Lunya has also grown to become the UK’s largest online Spanish food and drink deli, and further expansion is planned foll

Elaine Kinsella explained: “Although we and our customers love our existing site in Liverpool ONE, an opportunity arose with a new location offering all the extra space and facilities that was just too good to miss. We’re confident all of our many loyal customers will love it.”

Alison Clegg, director, asset management at Grosvenor Europe which owns the Hanover Street property, added: “Lunya is a great success story and we are delighted to be accommodating their growth.

“We have worked very closely with Peter and his team over the years, always focused on ensuring they thrive.

“It is very satisfying to see the business outgrowing its current home and expanding into another great location within Liverpool ONE.”
