Taylor Wimpey homes development near Southport starting soon

Work on a Taylor Wimpey development of 66 homes in Burscough near Southport is to start soon.

The scheme consists of a combination of two, three and four-bedroom homes and apartments on former industrial land on Briars Lane, adjacent to the recently-completed Taylor Wimpey North West development at Delph Green.

Planning and regeneration consultancy Nexus Planning secured planning permission for the development.

Following consultation with local residents and Burscough Parish Council, along with extensive pre-application discussions with planning officers, West Lancashire Borough Council voted approved the scheme at the planning committee in July.

After the main occupiers of the site moved to modern premises elsewhere in Burscough, the vacant industrial estate had become under-utilised.

Roger Hannah & Co undertook an employment land release report to demonstrate that site was no longer fit for industrial purposes.

Helen Hartley, principal planner at Nexus Planning, said: “The industrial units on the site had been under-occupied for years and the site was becoming increasingly deteriorated and unfit for modern employment uses. Its redevelopment for new homes will complement the existing residential areas surrounding the site and will bring significant environmental improvements to the area.”

Ian Harrison, land and planning director at Taylor Wimpey North West said: “We are delighted that the council have unanimously approved the scheme and we look forward to redeveloping the vacant site to meet the demand for new high-quality homes in the Burscough area, following the completion of our successful exclusive Delph Green development last year.

“We look forward to working with the local community to continue growing and evolving the area, as well as partnering with the causes and organisations that make Burscough such a desirable place to live.”
