Gateley restructuring conference to focus on complexity, change and uncertainty

Law firm Gateley is bringing together regional heavyweights to discuss what macro-economic challenges might be coming up for the Northern Powerhouse, as well as the turnaround, restructuring and lending environment in the North.

Its Restructuring Conference: Navigating complexity, change and uncertainty, supported by TheBusinessDesk, will bring together professionals from across the business community at The Bridgewater Hall on October 12, to explore the challenges facing businesses today and what they should be doing to prepare for the future.

A series of presentations will see speakers from the fields of business, economics, debt advisory, restructuring and private equity deliver a series of addresses, considering what steps businesses can take to navigate complexity, change and uncertainty. A panel debate will also look ahead to what future trading circumstances the North can expect.

Speakers include:

Mike Emmerich, the founding director of Metro Dynamics, previously the chief executive of New Economy Manchester and central to the Manchester devolution deal;

Brian Davidson of RooGreen Ventures, who has over 25 years’ experience in leading companies through successful turnarounds, including Crown Paints and BAE;

Shaun O’Callaghan, the head of Restructuring and Debt Advisory at Grant Thornton, who has more than 20 years’ experience as an advisor, executive and board director;

Stuart Tait, Restructuring partner at Gateley Plc, who has 15 years’ experience as a lawyer advising clients in various sectors, from lending syndicates to banks and other financial institutions, on voluntary and involuntary restructurings.

A panel debate, featuring Andrew McPhillips, chief economist at the Northern Powerhouse Partnership, Warwick Ley of RooGreen Ventures, Mathew Deering from Endless, Jimmy Williamson from Lloyds Bank and William Ballmann of Gateley Plc, will also consider how exposed the North is to macro-economic changes such as Brexit, how businesses and their advisers can prepare for these, and what can be done to mitigate damage or take advantage of the opportunities. An audience Q&A session will follow.

Andrew Buchanan, Restructuring partner at Gateley Plc

Andrew Buchanan, Restructuring partner at Gateley Plc and conference chairman, said: “In today’s increasingly complex world, businesses from across the North – from Greater Manchester to Yorkshire – are concerned about the uncertainty that macro-economic factors, such as Brexit, can bring. What we want to do at this conference is to bring together the business community in the North of England to share what it is that we’re all seeing on the ground, which sectors could potentially most be at risk from such events and what the warning signs are that could herald challenges for the Northern Powerhouse.

“On the flip side, we also want to consider what the opportunities are for us in the North and what actions businesses should be taking now, in order to take full advantage. We’re looking forward to what should be an informative and engaging conference.”

‘Restructuring Conference: Navigating complexity, change and uncertainty’ will take place from 8am-2.30pm on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester. The cost for a place at the conference is £50+ VAT per person, which includes lunch. CPD points will also be available. Book tickets here.
