Rochdale logistics firm makes first acquisition

A Rochdale-based logistics and warehousing business has made its first acquisition with the purchase of a Cheshire rival for an undiscosed sum.

Barnes Logistics, which provides logistical support and warehousing to time critical businesses, has acquired GA Newsome (Haulage) in Nantwich for an undisclosed sum.

Barnes operates from seven sites across the country with more than 60 vehicles and is looking to grow both organically and through strategic acquisitions to service its national customer base.

G A Newsome (Haulage) has its own purpose built premises offering substantial warehouse space, offices, workshop facilities and parking for its fleet of vehicles and wide variety of trailers.

The management team at Barnes believe that the acquisition will give them a greater opportunity to expand their current operations into different markets and geographical locations.

Chris Barnes, who founded the business, said: “The acquisition presents a unique opportunity in expanding our presence across the UK and we’re looking forward to the next stage of our journey at Barnes Logistics.”

Accountancy firm Mazars’ M&A team (David Hilton & Qasim Memon) advised on the deal and legal advice was provided by Hemingway Solicitors (Chris King). Funding was provided by Yorkshire Bank (Paul Grace & Helen Miller).

David Hilton, M&A Director at Mazars, said: “The deal adds to the already impressive infrastructure of the group and we look forward to seeing the business grow under the direction of Chris and his team.”
