ISG gets £25m contract to revamp schools

London-based commercial constructor ISG, which has a site at Salford Quays, has secured a £25m programme of works with Manchester City Council to deliver new and refurbished primary school facilities across the city.

Awarded through the North West Construction Hub Medium Value Framework in 2016, the appointment has already seen ISG deliver two schools in the first phase, with a further seven schools in the second phase.

Work is already complete on the first two projects. The first is a £3m new build Early Years Foundation Stage facility at St Margaret’s C of E Primary School on Withington Road. The project included reconfiguration works to the existing building and additional external elements.

The second scheme was a £2m refurbishment of an existing building and the construction of a new dining room extension at St Matthew’s RC High School on Nuthurst Road in Moston.

Using BIM Level 2 methodology, the projects saw ISG partner with Premier Modular to deliver the off-site manufactured new build elements, which are designed to be low carbon and achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’, in line with the council’s drive to provide more efficient and environmentally sustainable facilities.

To ensure consistency across the £25m programme, ISG has assembled a single team, comprising architect Lovelock Mitchell, structural engineers Scott Hughes, and mechanical and electrical engineers BCM Consulting.
