Manchester’s water taxi service – dubbed “waxi” – which launched nearly a year ago is expanding with a new route from Monday (September 25) following its success.

Passenger will be able to hop on to the boat at Henri Lloyd at The Alchemist at MediaCityUK and travel along the Manchester Ship Canal to the Manchester Marriott Victoria & Albert Hotel in Spinningfields. The journey will take less than 30 minutes.

Passengers travelling from MediaCityUK will be able access the waxi at a newly-created transport interchange between the water taxi, tram and bus every hour from 7am. The Henri Lloyd will then depart Spinningfields every hour starting at 7:30am.

Manchester Water Taxis founder Steven Cadwell said: “This additional route has been put in place to meet the demands of people wanting to travel between the hugely popular MediaCityUK at Salford Quays and Spinningfields, central Manchester.

“It’s something that will appeal to a lot of people who want a different way to travel between both locations for either work or leisure. We know our roads are getting more and more congested, and more people are seeking alternative forms of transport.

“The Henri Lloyd waxi not only offers a practical solution but also one which is a fun and relaxing alternative to sitting on a tram, bus or in the back of a taxi.”

The stepped up service follows Cadwell’s launch of the service last November, connecting Manchester city centre with Sale and Old Trafford along the Bridgewater Canal.

Waxi hit the waterways taking passengers from Dukes 92 in Castlefield to intu Trafford centre for Santa’s Grotto visits. It wasthe first water taxi service in operation in Greater Manchester.
