National law firm Shoosmiths has boosted its corporate team in Manchester with the appointment of Andrew Millar as a partner.

Millar joins the fast-growing firm from regional law firm Brabners, where he has spent four years building its corporate practice as a partner.

Prior to Brabners, he spent eight years with Squire Sanders (now Squire Patton Boggs) in its Manchester office, having trained in London with Hogan Lovells, where he also spent eight years after joining as a trainee.

Millar specialises in advising private and public companies on fundraisings, mergers and acquisitions, company law advice and group reorganisations.

His recruitment underlines Shoosmiths’ commitment to attracting talent and establishing a major presence in the regional deal-making marketplace.

Earlier this summer the firm appointed former listed company chief executive Tim Jackson-Smith as a partner in Manchester, while in Leeds, it appointed corporate partners Philip Goldsborough and James Foster from Irwin Mitchell.

Vaqas Faroo,q head of Shoosmiths Manchester, said: “Andrew is an excellent lawyer with a great reputation in the market. Across the North we are very proud that we have assembled a formidable corporate team led by five partners with deep knowledge and genuine business insight .”

Karen Procter, corporate partner at Shoosmiths in Manchester, said: “Andrew’s appointment is really timely given that our team is incredibly busy delivering a number of exciting and high profile deals.

“Attracting high quality lawyers like Andrew is a real statement of intent and I am sure he’ll be a great addition to our team.”

Millar added: “Joining Shoosmiths is an exciting opportunity. The firm has made great strides in the North West and has a reputation for innovation and its client service.

“Joining Shoosmiths was an easy decision and I am looking forward to working with the talented team here in Manchester and across the wider north.”

Shoosmiths’ corporate team has advised public and private companies, management teams, investors and debt providers through the business life cycle.

Shoosmiths work with businesses from start-up and first round finance through to mergers and acquisitions, MBO and MBI transactions, development funding and on exits, by way of sale, listing or private equity investment.
