Traffic alert: M6 at Lancashire and Cumbria closed due to separate incidents

The M6, Lancashire, is closed southbound within J32 due to an ongoing incident involving a HGV and a car.

Road users are able to divert by exiting at J32 and continuing on the M55 westbound to J1 where they can turn at the roundabout and return eastbound to continue on the M6 southbound.

Meanwhile, the M6 is also closed in Cumbria, northbound between J36 (Milton) and J37 (Kendal) due to a serious incident involving a flat bed lorry.

A vehicle has ruptured its fuel tank and there is a large diesel spill across the carriageway.

Northbound traffic is advised to exit the M6 at J36 and take the A590 northbound. At Brettargh Holt roundabout take the A591 northbound to Plumgarths roundabout. Take the third exit onto the A5284 and head eastbound towards Kendal and then take the A6 northbound and continue towards Shap. At Shap, take the B6261 and re-join the the M6 at J39 (Hollow Diamond symbol led diversion).
